9th Dec: The plan for today was to go and see the Pinnacles. When we asked the girl in reception yesterday about them she had told us they were “loadsa sticky up rock thingies in the sand… but there’re way cool” so how could we resist?
We woke up at 6am this morning to glorious sunshine and an email from Casey, telling us it was –4
° at home!!!! Ahhhhh shame. Our tour guide came to collect us at 07:20 in an enormous 4WD Truck.

Australian Christmas Tree

We collected a menagerie of other tourists and then headed off north to our first stop, which was at the Yanchep National Park. At Yanchep we had a short break and got the chance to see some Koala’s as well as some captive and wild Kangaroos.
Then it was back onto the coach as we travelled along the bush tracks we saw loads of Kangaroo’s and Emus and also our first Christmas tree – the ‘Australian Christmas Tree’ which flowers at this time of year with loads of yellow flowers.
We stopped for lunch in the ‘Rock Lobster’ town of Cervantes then it was off to the Nambung National Park to see the Pinnacles. Gotta admit ‘reception girl’ was

right, they are “way cool”. We went for a 45-minute walk around the pinnacles and then walked up to an area called ‘the lookout’ which was raised slightly so that you could see right across the park to the Indian Ocean.
Next stop was the small fishing settlement of Lancelin. Here we drove right over the dunes in our coach-lorry! Some of the drops were almost vertical and it was really weird to see a truck this size go over them. After our 4WD hack around, we drove to the top of one of the really big dunes and our guide produced a load of skateboards without wheels, which they call sandboards. With the aid of a little

candle wax and some courage we sat on our boards, tipped ourselves over the ridges and ‘surfed’ all the way down the dunes – it was awesome!
A great day was had by all and then it was back to the hotel, to get the sand out of our ears, before a couple of beers. :o)
Tomorrow we’re off to Rottnest Island…. Night Night.

PS. For those interested, we still have not got our case, hopefully on the 12th!
